Did you know the colour, shape and material of the clock you choose may affect your feng shui? What is Feng Shui? Feng Shui is a more than 3000 years old philosophy about how your living environment can influence your feeling and your happiness. When done right, it will strengthen the feng shui element of Metal, Wood, Water, Fire or Earth and therefore create a positive impact on your health, fortune, career, love or reputation.
Unlike most of the other furnishing items, clocks are in motion and are said to be stronger catalysts for change, able to bring about opportunities for progress and growth.
The table below shows you the different clock materials, shapes and colours representing the different feng shui elements. The next step is to find out which elements you want to enhance and buy a clock with the right characteristics.

There are two ways to approach it:
- Every person is assigned a feng shui element based on their birth year. The simplest way is to enhance the element of your birth year, which will bring a positive impact on your overall fortune.
- Birth years ending in 0 or 1 – Metal
- Birth years ending in 2 or 3 – Water
- Birth years ending in 4 or 5 – Wood
- Birth years ending in 6 or 7 – Fire
- Birth years ending in 8 or 9 – Earth
- You may also choose to channel positive energy to a specific aspect of your life, e.g., career, relationship, or wealth. Each life aspect has a feng shui direction and a feng shui element. Follow the table below to select the life aspect you want to work on. Know the direction and element, and put a clock with matching characteristics at that direction inside your home. E.g., if you want a smoother career path, put a clock with Water characteristics to the North side of your home.

There is an additional dimension to it – the five elements have a nourishing effect on each other.
- Water nourishes Wood
- Wood fuels Fire
- Fire burns (wood) to ash to create Earth
- Earth sediments and turns into Metal
- Metal enhances Water
This means clocks with Water characteristics can also generate Wood energy. And one with Wood characteristics will generate Fire.
For instance, you need to enhance the Earth element, either because that is your birth element, or because you want better romance. Instead of Earth itself, you also have the option to enhance Fire because Fire accelerates Earth energy.
You can apply feng shui on all your environments, either at home or at work. Now you know how Feng Shui works. I hope you will have a better idea “nextime” when you look for a clock with additional feng shui enhancement effect!
